ISSFAL Alert: 2020 BASF Nutrition Asia Grant - https://t.co/bLGgFkXr73
You are invited to Qingdao for the 2020 Biennial Congress!
Following the great success of recent ISSFAL Congresses in South Africa (2016) and Las Vegas (2018), the Society is now taking its meeting to another new venue, the beautiful city of Qingdao in China. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this seaside gem, we encourage you to visit Lonely Planet's site for some initial background on all Qingdao and the surrounding region has to offer! With a wealth of places to visit Qingdao is the perfect base from which to explore this deeply historic yet lesser known region of China.
The meeting dates are now confirmed as 14th – 17th June 2020 and Qingdao is a short 1 hour flight from Beijing or Seoul and just bit longer from Shanghai or Tokyo, with other direct routes from most major cities in the region. Non-stops are available from some cities in Europe as well as the West Coast of North America.
The format of the meeting will be broadly similar to previous ISSFAL Congresses with internationally acclaimed expert plenary speakers and in depth parallel sessions covering all aspects of lipids in human nutrition from basic research to applied clinical and nutritional practice. As ever, we expect presentations on some of the most leading edge up to date scientific research in the field.
There is excellent fatty acid and lipid research being undertaken in some of China’s most prestigious institutions - presenting many opportunities for academic collaboration. China is now a major producer and the second largest market in the world after the United States for Omega-3 products! The Congress will provide the perfect opportunity to learn about both aspects - academic and commercial - from the local Omega-3 sector.
Qingdao itself is a beautiful city on the northeastern coast of China, and is famous for its long beaches, modern architecture and long established beer brewing industry - you may be familiar with Tsingtao Beer. The Congress will be held in the modern ‘Qingdao Theatre’ specifically built to host opera and other cultural events with the adjoining Grand Theatre Hotel as the conference accommodation, located just five minutes walk from the beach and within easy walking distance of other hotels, bars and restaurants. More details on the venue and accommodation will be available in coming weeks.
We hope this brief announcement has whetted your appetite to learn more about the ISSFAL 2020 International Congress. Please be assured further information will be distributed over the coming weeks but in the meantime the initial call for abstracts period has begun and registration information 1st of August.
In the meantime we look forward to seeing you all, members and non-members in Qingdao next year. Please save the dates to your calendar and begin making plans for what promises to be an incredible Congress - from both an academic and cultural perspective!
